SAVE THE PRESS! Fundraiser on Random Lane

SPC will soon welcome an impressive addition to the room, and to our programming.
Thanks to a long term loan from poet Swanee Astrid, we will soon have an iconic 1910 Chandler & Price platen letter press at the SPC with which we will be able to create beautiful broadsides, chapbook covers, bookmarks, cards and whatever can be imagined for it. We will offer informational workshops with guest printers as well as collaborations with other groups. And make stuff for the community! And more!

On Saturday, May 16, from 2-5:30 p.m., Bob Stanley (Poet Laureate Emeritus, and former President of SPC) and Joyce Hsiao will open up their Sacramento home to host a fundraiser for the cost of shipping and purchasing supplies for the press, as well as some work that will need to be done in the room in reparation for its arrival. Save the date!

Save the Press! Well, it’s not as dramatic as that, but it’s catchy, right? And it’s an opportunity that will benefit all of us.

The afternoon will feature a presentation about the press, a reading by Allegra Silberstein and Dr. Andy Jones, assorted fun poetry activities — including a short poem contest, trivia games, a mini book fair featuring books from Random Lane Press, River Rock Press and SPC, live music, and plenty of food and drink, including a BBQ. We will also have raffles and an auction for great prizes, including a couple of grand prizes that you won’t want to miss — hot off the press, so to speak!

The fun begins at 2 p.m.!

Admission is $30 for one, $50 for two. Your donation will be applied to your SPC membership if you choose — or you can use it to gift a membership to someone else.
