THE BRIDGE: FREDDIE HUBBARD — ONE OF A KIND celebrates one of the most powerful and influential trumpet voices in modern jazz with music drawn from Freddie Hubbard’s remarkable work of the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s. Featuring favorites such as “Gibraltar,” “One of a Kind,” and “Super Blue,” the program highlights a period in which Hubbard expanded beyond hard bop and post-bop into funk, fusion, and more contemporary jazz settings—without ever losing the fiery technique, harmonic command, and unmistakable sound that made him a legend. Greg Grocholski, Scott Gordon, Mateo Ruiz, Chet Chwalik, and Rob Lemas bring the exceptional musicianship and energy needed to take on this demanding repertoire, capturing both the sophistication and sheer excitement of Hubbard’s music.
